CNIL recommendation adopted on 12 March 2026
Do your tracking pixels hold up?
Since April 2026, measuring an email's individual open has in principle required the recipient's consent. Some purposes are exempt, under precise conditions.
Seven to ten questions depending on your answers, an immediate score, and the detail of the gaps to address.
The questions are about your own emails, as they stand today — not about what the text says, nor about what would be desirable. If you don't know, say so: that's an answer, and it counts.
What it does
Qualifies your answers against the principles set out by the recommendation.
What it does not do
It does not inspect your emails and is not an audit. It's an indicative self-assessment.
Your answers
Kept without your name, to calculate the score and feed aggregated statistics. The email address is only asked for at the end, for the report.
Read the guide first — the rule, its two exemptions, and each type of email case by case.
