MailjetOpen-tracking pixel, click tracking and unsubscribe

Mailjet can insert an open-tracking pixel; removing it campaign by campaign is only partly possible. In our corpus, 150 of the 260 emails sent through Mailjet, by 28 brands, loaded an open-tracking pixel (58%).

Caveat Set at main-account level only, a single parameter covering "e-mails transactionnels et campagnes" (transactional emails and campaigns), propagated to all API keys and sub-accounts (observed in the tool on 23/08, consistent). The default state of a new account remains undocumented. Changes take effect within up to 10 minutes. Not retroactive: emails already sent keep their configuration — their opens continue to be recorded after disabling.

exclude links from being tracked and rewritten by using the NOTRACK parameter

Caveat Links rewritten to Mailjet's servers (pattern mjt.lu or a branded CNAME — esp_signatures); exclusion per link via the marker's parameter; three states at account level, as for opens (French CNIL page); "Désactivé" (Disabled) = no rewriting at all.

Exclusion by campaign Partially 1 note · 17/10/2026 Out of reach
By default

Caveat The X-Mailjet-TrackOpen header sets open tracking message by message, and the same page groups a campaign's messages by X-Mailjet-Campaign: a campaign sent through the SMTP relay or the API can go out without open tracking. No per-campaign option is described in the editor; the CNIL page states that tracking settings "sont gérés au niveau du compte" (are managed at account level). The page does not say whether a message set this way is sent without an image, nor whether the header can restore tracking that the account or the contact has reduced. The TrackOpens parameter (account_default, enabled, disabled) does the same for sends triggered by webhook in a workflow ("Emails automatisés", rewritten on 29/09/2026).

Exclusion by contact Partially 1 note · 17/10/2026 Out of reach
By default

Caveat A contact's recorded refusal removes individual tracking, not necessarily the image: an account with anonymous tracking (Starter plans and above) applies that mode to the contact, and the page does not say whether this mode still loads an image. Without anonymous tracking (Free plan), tracking is disabled for that contact and the email is sent "sans pixel de suivi des ouvertures" (without an open-tracking pixel). The sentence quoted on 11 September — account settings "ne permettent pas de désactiver le suivi pour un seul destinataire" (do not allow tracking to be disabled for a single recipient) — is no longer on the page rewritten on 15 October. Through the SMTP relay or the API, a header also sets tracking message by message (see exclusion-par-campagne).

Consent — absence means no pixel No 1 note · 11/09/2026 Out of reach
By default

Caveat The model is opt-out: with no recorded preference, the account setting applies, and an account set to Anonymous cannot switch only the consenting contacts to individual tracking.

Native consent collection Yes 1 note · 11/09/2026 Out of reach
By default

Caveat Two collection routes: a Mailjet form field, and a "Préférences de suivi" (tracking preferences) system link to a page hosted by the vendor, which cannot be customised. The choice is recorded on the profile and applied when the email is generated, within the limit of the account setting.

Tracking anonymization No 1 note · 17/10/2026 Out of reach
By default

Caveat The Anonymous mode (Starter plans and above) is set at account level, and also applies to a contact who refuses tracking. It reduces the data collected at recipient level; it does not delete it: opens are still "enregistrées anonymement" (recorded anonymously), and only the Opened list stops showing the contact ("limitant les informations affichées au niveau du destinataire", limiting the information displayed at recipient level). The page describes sending without an image only for the Disabled option ("Aucun pixel de suivi des ouvertures ne sera ajouté à l’e-mail": no open-tracking pixel will be added to the email), and treats anonymous tracking separately from sending without a pixel. It never states whether the image in Anonymous mode is individualised or not: the "no" is a deduction against the definition (no longer loading an individualised image), as for Brevo. The "yes" of 23 August rested on the existence of the mode. To be settled on an email received in Anonymous mode.

Traceable choice Yes 1 note · 17/10/2026 Out of reach
By default

Caveat Two system properties, opens and clicks, read at each send and exportable as CSV under the names mjoptinopen and mjoptinclick: 1 for accepted, 0 for refused, empty for not recorded. The export gives the current state; the page does not say that Mailjet keeps successive states, and leaves the burden of proof to the sender ("Vos enregistrements de consentement doivent vous permettre de démontrer": your consent records must enable you to demonstrate). The caveat of 11 September, "The page does not say whether they can be exported", no longer holds.

Caveat Two levels: the main account, the only place where it is set, which sets the ceiling for all API keys; and the contact, whose preference can only reduce tracking. The page does not mention a per-campaign setting.

Limits of this analysis

It doesn't say what a brand has actually configured. A sending platform that allows turning off the pixel says nothing about which brands have done so — that's what a brand's report answers.

It doesn't rank. No score, no recommendation: capabilities don't carry the same weight depending on the use, and that weight isn't ours to set.

A “not checked” cell is not a “no”. It says nobody has gone to look yet, and nothing else.

The corpus does not establish a capability. A rate of observed pixels says what brands send, not what the tool can do.

Frequently asked questions

Can you turn off open tracking in Mailjet?

Partly: Mailjet only lets you remove the open-tracking pixel from a campaign in some cases. The notes on this page say which.

Does Mailjet rewrite links for click tracking?

Yes: Mailjet rewrites the links in its emails to count clicks.

Do your emails go through Mailjet?

The sending platform is read from the headers, not from a claim. The report names it, and says where to fix the findings with that vendor.
